Fitness at Shotokan Karate Leadership School®

Kickboxing Fitness at Shotokan Karate Leadership School® is a primary focus. Greater physical fitness increases students ability to perform in basics, kata, and sparring. We accomplish this through conditioning and the repetition of basics. Conditioning is essential to weight loss, greater speed, and a powerful technique. Push ups, the plank, superman holds, and crunches are all part of our conditioning drills designed to accomplish these objectives. In addition, the endless repetition of the basics serves to develop strong legs and coordination. These activities increase cardiovascular capacity and strength respectively. When these forms of exercise are added to the robust curriculum of shotokan kata and sparring, the result is a fitter, more healthy student. In addition to working on developing speed and a powerful technique, we work on balance. This is accomplished through kicking drills designed to improve the students balance and pose. In addition we employ time tested stretching and warm-up drills designed to increase the students flexibility. This approach to conditioning, flexibility, and weight loss has the potential to transform obese students into empowered and physically active members of the dojo. Even if the student does not struggle with weight loss we can increase strength, power, poise, and flexibility through this program. At Shotokan Karate Leadership School® we place the fitness and physical well being of the student as a top priority.
