Researchers at the University of Rome La Sapienza and University of California San Diego School of Medicine have identified common psychological traits in a group of 90 to 101 year old people living in southern Italy that reveal secrets to a long happy life.

The senior author of the study, Dilip V. Jeste MD, from the Center of Healthy Aging at UC San Diego School of Medicine said, “The main themes that emerged from our study, and appear to be the unique features associated with better mental health of this rural population, were positivity, work ethic, stubbornness and a strong bond with family, religion and land.”

The study went on to discover other psychological traits. Here’s more or less the complete list: positivity, work ethic, stubbornness, strong bond with family, religion and land, self-confidence, strong decision-making skills, domineering, needing a sense of control, being true to their convictions, caring less about what others think, notable grit balanced by a need to adapt to changing circumstances.

Everything on this list are psychological traits that our black belt training will instill in your child. I strongly recommend that if you have not yet enrolled your child in our school, do it now. And, if your child is enrolled but not yet in one of our Black Belt programs… do that now.

It is our belief that the best thing a parent can do for their child is to instill in them these qualities. It’s much better than to pile on the toys, games, and devices that our modern society pushes.
